Planet Earth Scouts Broadcasts

Greetings Planet Earth Scouts Community!

This is the first broadcast we have done since Earth Day for the summer of 2012 and we hope that all of you are enjoying your summer!

This network is continually growing with new members and we are going to start officially welcoming them in these broadcasts to make it easy for you all to connect with folks in your areas.

We realize that it is hard to sort through the hundreds of members in this community so we have also been working on a member directory that sorts everyone by State and Country. It is still being created but you can have a sneak peak here. We will also be creating one for groups as well. Below are the new members who joined in July - please click on their profiles and give them a warm welcome.

Still Looking for a Planet Earth Scouts Welcome Hostess/Host

Planet Earth Scouts gets new members weekly and our team is hoping to find someone who would like to help in approving and welcoming new members...Do you have Ning network experience or basic network admin skills and would like to be the official Planet Earth Scouts Welcome Hostess/Host? If so please email admin@planetearthscouts.org with 'Welcome Hostess/Host' in the subject line. Even if you have zero experience it is super simple to learn how!

Planet Earth Scouts Manual Update

After our team released the Earth Charter Local Endorsement Kit & Activities Guide in May we turned our attention to the task of writing a Planet Earth Scouts Manual. Spring gardening and other important events absorbed our time so we were unable to finish it in July like we had hoped but we are working on it and will be posting a copy of the draft in the Resource Development Group this coming week to get more contributing authors and ideas. If you would like to contribute to this manual please join this group.

Planet Earth Scouts loves the Children & Nature Network. This summer be sure to download the 'Nature Rocks' activity guide and learn about the upcoming 'Serve Outside September' project - click here to read more.

Warm thoughts to you all!

Greetings Planet Earth Scouts Community

Happy Earth Day! It has been a very busy month and we are happy to announce that our team has designed new Planet Earth Scouts badges for the 4 Pillars of the Earth Charter as an Earth Day gift to all Planet Earth Scouts families and groups. These new badges are just the first of new badges that will be made available under creative commons license. The badges are available on 4 inch buttons through the new Planet Earth Scouts Store alongside other merchandise like organic t-shirts, hats, and bags. All images can be downloaded and we will keep adding new ones in the coming weeks.

We have also released the Planet Earth Scouts Induction Oath that can be downloaded and printed as a beautiful certificate. We are working on facilitators guides and manuals and we hope to have them available soon. The Resource Development and Badge committee groups are working with our team to develop new resources and if you would like to participate please join us!

Another exciting launch - or 're-launch' - this Earth Day is the Earth Charter Community Network! The Earth Charter Community Network is an online community that serves Earth Charter endorsers, advocates, educators, and activists who are working towards a sustainable future.

We have added a 'Short History of the Earth Charter' and an Earth Charter page that allows you to read the full document.

We wanted to let members who have joined in the past year to know that this community network is evolving through a transition from non-profit governance to a member collaborative community project and all new resources have to be developed so we appreciate your patience and look forward to your contribution. If you would like to participate in this development process please join the Planet Earth Scouts Leadership team and post a discussion sharing with us your ideas and possible areas of contribution.

Greetings Planet Earth Scouts Community!

Happy Spring!  Late Monday night and Tuesday (depending on where you live) the Vernal Equinox happened and spring is officially upon us!

What a journey it has been for our team since we dissolved association with the ECUS board of directors and committed to support and facilitate the evolution of this community's vision and purpose.

We want to apologize to all the new members who had to wait so long for their membership to get approved.  If there is anyone interested in doing welcomes and approvals for new members and have a knowledge of Ning Networks please contact us - our former executive assistant Deborah moved to be with her children/grandchildren so we need help with simple new member admin/welcomes.  Email us at admin@planetearthscouts.org

During the fall/winter our team moved our headquarters to a new location - we manage our projects within our home so that meant moving horses, goats, outbuildings, trees (yes we uprooted trees), plants, rocks, and even dirt (20 yards of pristine compost).  So that is why we have not had any time to work with this community until now.

We have been working on a Planet Earth Scouts Manual that will be published under the Creative Commons licenses that govern the Planet Earth Scouts network and content so that it can be easily expanded, edited, and revised by all members.  We are currently working with the "Let's Get Started - Outlines' that were posted here in the Resource Development Committee and we have the first 3 badges designed and will be posting them soon for everyone to check out.

For now we wanted to invite any and all to join the Badge Development Committee, the Leadership Team, and the Resource Development Committee if you would like to commit to being a part of building and co-creating the Planet Earth Scouts resources and goals.

We feel this lapse in time and activity on this network served to allow everyone to re-orientate and we received communications from many members who were going through a great deal of changes in their lives as well.  These times we live in require us to be highly adaptable and fluid as our culture transitions to new sustainable models, systems, and structures.   We are committed to seeing Planet Earth Scouts emerge as it was originally intended - a program that provides a way for children/youth and even adults to participate in the fundamental shifts towards a just, peaceful, and sustainable world - and having fun while it happens!

We will be resuming regular monthly broadcasts and updates and we look forward to hearing about any activities you have been doing!

Cheers

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and we hope your day was filled with warm family/friends gatherings and of course a lovely feasting!

All the best to everyone!

Greetings Planet Earth Scouts Community

We would like to encourage you to check out an Introduction outline that we just posted in the Resource Development Committee discussion forum and consider joining the committee to help write, edit, refine, and publish new resources for Planet Earth Scouts.

The outline is in draft form and members can easily add/edit content by adding discussions for various sections.  The outline is for a basic 'Introduction to Planet Earth Scouts' pdf guidebook.

Fall is officially here and the weather this week in the Sierra Nevada Foothills where we are based is kicking up some early winter rain
storms.  We hope all of you are keeping warm and enjoying the harvest
season that is upon us. We are working on video tutorials for members who wish to help admin the network.  September was a bit of a wild month for our team due to a crises with an elder family member and we apologize for the lag in communications.

Cheers!
